Confirmation Class 07-08 Faith Statement
We believe God is the creator of heaven and earth and all life who gave his only son for us. God is like a parent who is everywhere in our lives.
We believe Jesus, fully human and fully divine, taught about God, performed miracles, fed the hungry, and healed the sick. Jesus suffered, died and rose for our sins so that we may be freed to serve others with God's merciful love.
We believe the Holy Spirit guides us through our day and is God's way of talking to us. The Holy Spirit helps us make good choices and inspires us to use our gifts to serve others.
We believ that the sacraments of the Church--Baptism and Holy Communion--are symbols of God's love for us. In communion, we partake in the breaking of the bread (which represents the body of Jesus) and the cup of salvation (which represents the blood of Jesus) as a way of remembering Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Communion transforms us into being better people. In baptism, we are cleansed and sealed by the waters as members of God's community and a new life in Christ.
We believe the Church is God's house. The Church is a family and community which provide a way for us to connect to God through worship (prayer, singing, reading/hearing scripture), fellowship and service.
