About Organist, William Mennell
.
 William Mennell
William spent most of his childhood practicing for a career in music - preferably as a symphony musician, starting violin at 5, piano at 7 and organ at 10.  Violin is his favorite instrument and was his best, although sadly, after 11 years of inactivity, the muscle memory is mostly gone.  Pursuing violin and organ majors at Oberlin Conservatory for a year finally convinced him he was playing for all the wrong reasons and was very burned out and so he quit school and figured out a new direction in life.  12 years later, he has kept up the organ and piano for fun and plays simply for the enjoyment of it.  In addition to too many other hobbies, he is gradually learning some guitar so that he can someday play some blues and rock-and-roll - the most fun of all - but if you ask him, he will be hard pressed to find ANY genre of music from anywhere in the world that he doesn't like at least a little.
William served as an infantry lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division for three years and served in both Afghanistan and Iraq.  He is in his 4th year of doctoral studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, School of Business and very much looking forward to reaching the light at the end of the tunnel around May, 2009.  He has been married to Amanda for 5 years, and they have a beautiful 17-month-old daughter, Gracyn, and a boy coming along sometime in early 2008.  Although they are members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Laurel, God has also blessed them richly through the wonderful people and spirit present at Colesville Presbyterian.  Working with people like the incredibly talented and people-oriented music director John Stevenson makes the entire music process a real pleasure.  William considers it an honor and blessing to be playing at Colesville.
